How much is my business worth?

Get a calculated value range for your business in minutes — free, and ungated: you see the number first, and an email is only needed if you choose to save or track it. The methodology and every data source are on this page, in full.

Methodology

How the appraisal is calculated

The calculator runs an earnings-multiple analysis — the method small and mid-market businesses actually trade on. Four steps, all disclosed:

  1. Earnings basis. Your revenue and earnings by financial year, anchored on your most recent completed year. Owner add-backs and one-off expenses can be itemised so the earnings figure reflects what a buyer really receives — as SDE for owner-operated businesses or EBITDA for management-run ones.
  2. Industry profile. Your region, industry and subsector, from the same industry dataset the appraisal engine itself uses — selected, never guessed.
  3. Growth and risk. Revenue growth (computed from your own year-on-year figures where available), staff turnover, and thirteen structured risk factors — customer concentration, owner dependency, lease security and the rest — each answered explicitly.
  4. Multiple interpolation. The engine positions your business inside its industry's multiple range according to that growth and risk profile, and returns a low–mid–high range, the implied multiple, and the working behind it.

Where the data comes from

  • Your inputs

Revenue, earnings, add-backs, growth and risk answers. Nothing is fetched about your business from anywhere else, and nothing is stored unless you create an account.

  • The appraisal engine's industry dataset

The industry and subsector taxonomy and multiple ranges the engine applies, served by the same API the calculation runs on.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is the appraisal really free, with no signup?

Yes. You see the full calculated range with no account and no email address. An email is only needed if you choose to save the appraisal, download or email the PDF report, or take one of the next-step options at the end.

What method does the calculator use?

Earnings-multiple analysis: your earnings (SDE for owner-operated businesses, EBITDA for management-run ones) multiplied by a range that reflects your industry, growth and risk profile. The methodology section on this page describes each step; nothing in the engine is a black box.

What is the difference between SDE and EBITDA?

SDE (Seller’s Discretionary Earnings) is EBITDA plus the owner’s salary and benefits — the total cash an owner-operator takes out. Small owner-run businesses are usually priced on SDE; larger, management-run businesses on EBITDA. The calculator supports both and tells you which it used.

Why is the result a range and not one number?

Because a single figure would be false precision. Sale prices move with negotiation, deal structure, timing and buyer specifics. The range brackets what the inputs support; the disclaimer below explains its limits.

Is this a formal valuation?

No — it is an automated calculation with disclosed methods and limited scope, framed on the calculation-engagement model in APES 225. A full valuation engagement by a qualified valuer involves wider procedures and may reach a different result. You can convert your appraisal into a human-reviewed valuation from the results screen.

About this calculation

The figure produced by this tool is an automated calculation, prepared using agreed valuation methods — earnings-multiple analysis on Seller's Discretionary Earnings (SDE) or EBITDA — applied to the information you provide. It is framed on the model of a calculation engagement as described in APES 225 (Valuation Services): the scope is limited to the methods and inputs disclosed on this page, and a full valuation engagement, performed by a qualified valuer with wider procedures, may produce a materially different result.

The result is expressed as a range, not a single figure, and estimates the value of the business — its assets and earnings capacity. It is not an opinion on the value of shares or any other financial product, and it is not an offer to buy or sell anything.

The calculation is produced on the date you run it, from the data vintages disclosed in the methodology section of this page. It does not constitute financial advice, tax advice or legal advice, and it does not take your personal circumstances into account. Businesses sell for prices that depend on factors no automated tool can fully assess — negotiation, deal structure, timing, buyer specifics and market conditions. Do not rely on this calculation as the sole basis for any transaction decision. Before acting, obtain advice from a qualified professional — an accredited business valuer, a licensed business broker, or your accountant.
